Butterfly Valve

Ductile Iron Butterfly Valve Series

Midas specializes in manufacturing ductile iron butterfly valves that meet standards EN 593 / ISO 5752 / BS 5155 / AWWA C504, with sizes ranging from 2″ to 48″. Available in multiple configurations, our factory-direct valves offer unbeatable factory prices. Each valve body is made of premium ductile iron, combined with advanced sealing structures and precision machining to ensure reliable sealing performance and extended service life.

Butterfly valves are quarter-turn rotary valves used for regulating or isolating fluid flow in pipelines. They offer compact design, lightweight construction, quick operation, and excellent performance across a wide range of industrial and municipal applications. Butterfly valves can be used for liquids, gases, and semi-solid materials.

Types of Ductile Iron Butterfly Valves

  • Wafer Type Butterfly Valve
Ideal for pipe line wafer installation, featuring EPDM or NBR seals for corrosion and wear resistance. Compact and lightweight design.

  • U Type Butterfly Valve
Valve disc edged with a U-shaped polymer seal ring for zero leakage, low operating torque, smooth opening/closing, and minimal maintenance.

  • Lug Type Butterfly Valve
Improved wafer design with threaded lugs for one-side removal without disconnecting the pipeline. Perfect for end-of-line or intermediate installations.

  • Double Flange Butterfly Valve
Integral flanged ends for direct connection to pipeline flanges. High pressure rating suitable for large-diameter and high-pressure systems.

  • Actuated Butterfly Valve
Can be fitted with electric or pneumatic actuators for remote and automated control—ideal for industrial automation and centralized systems.

  • Double Flanged Eccentric Butterfly Valve
Double-flanged, eccentric design minimizes friction and ensures even wear of sealing surfaces. Suited for high-temperature, high-pressure, or particulated media.

Key Features & Advantages

  • Lightweight & Compact: Requires less installation space compared with gate or globe valves.

  • Quick Operation: 90° turn from open to close.

  • Low Hydraulic Resistance: Smooth disc and bore design minimize flow loss.

  • Wide Range of Sizes: Suitable for small pipelines to large diameter applications.

  • Versatile Applications: Can be used for water, wastewater, gas, HVAC, chemical, and industrial fluids.

  • Cost-Effective: Lower manufacturing and maintenance cost compared with other valve types.

Working Principle

The butterfly valve consists of a circular disc mounted on a shaft. When the valve is turned (typically 90°), the disc rotates to allow, restrict, or block fluid flow. In the open position, the disc is aligned parallel to the flow, minimizing obstruction; in the closed position, the disc blocks flow effectively.

Material & Suitable Media

Our butterfly valves are available in a variety of construction materials to suit different environments and fluids:

  • Body Materials: Ductile Iron, Carbon Steel (WCB), Stainless Steel (SS304 / SS316), Alloy Steel

  • Disc Materials: Stainless Steel, Ductile Iron with EPDM/NBR/PTFE coating

  • Seat Materials: EPDM, NBR, PTFE, Viton® for chemical resistance

Suitable for water supply, wastewater, HVAC systems, industrial liquids, gases, and corrosive media depending on material selection.

Standards & Specifications

Our butterfly valves are manufactured and tested according to international standards to ensure compatibility, safety, and quality:

  • API 609 – Butterfly Valves: Lug and Wafer Type

  • ANSI / ASME B16.5 – Flange Dimensions

  • DIN / EN 593 – Industrial butterfly valves

  • ISO 5752 / ISO 5211 – Face-to-face and mounting pad standards

  • AWWA C504 – Large Diameter Butterfly Valves for Water Supply

Typical Applications

  • Municipal water supply systems

  • Wastewater treatment plants

  • HVAC and building services

  • Industrial fluid and gas pipelines

  • Chemical and petrochemical processing

  • Irrigation and agricultural systems

  • Fire protection networks

Selection Guide: How to Choose the Right Butterfly Valve?

Choosing a butterfly valve depends on operating conditions and performance requirements:

  • Medium Type & Temperature: Select seat and body materials based on fluid properties and temperature.

  • Pressure Rating: Choose valve class based on maximum system pressure.

  • Valve Size: Match valve size with pipeline inner diameter for proper fit and flow performance.

  • Connection Type: Wafer, lug, or flanged type depending on installation environment.

  • Automation Needs: Manual lever, gearbox, pneumatic or electric actuators available.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the main advantage of a butterfly valve?

The main benefits are lightweight design, space-saving installation, quick operation, and lower cost compared to gate or globe valves.

Can butterfly valves be automated?

Yes. Butterfly valves can be equipped with electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic actuators for remote or automated control requirements.

What is the difference between wafer and lug type?

Wafer type is designed to fit between flanges and is suitable for bidirectional pressure but must remain between flanges during removal. Lug type has threaded lugs on both sides, allowing one side to be removed without disturbing the other.

Which materials are best for corrosive media?

For corrosive environments, stainless steel body and PTFE or Viton® seats provide enhanced resistance against aggressive chemicals.
