In the sealing links of various pipeline systems, rubber gaskets play an indispensable role. Our company has been deeply engaged in the field of pipeline accessories for many years. Now, we will elaborate on the characteristics and application points of this core sealing product for you, helping you achieve accurate selection and efficient sealing in your projects.
Rubber gaskets are based on elastic rubber as the base material. They fill the gaps on the sealing surfaces of connecting components such as flanges and valves through compression deformation to achieve a leak-proof effect. Their core advantages include:
High Elasticity and Sealing Performance: Rubber materials have excellent elastic recovery ability. Even under low preload, they can closely fit the sealing surface, effectively blocking the leakage of liquids, gases, and other media, and are especially suitable for working conditions with non-rigid sealing surfaces.
Temperature Resistance and Medium Resistance: Different rubber materials can adapt to a variety of temperature ranges, such as -60℃ to 200℃, and special materials can reach higher or lower temperatures. They also have a certain tolerance to various media such as water, oil, acids, alkalis, and solvents, with wide adaptability.
Ease of Installation: They are soft in texture, easy to cut and install, can adapt to sealing surfaces of different shapes, and have relatively low requirements on the processing accuracy of the sealing surface, reducing the construction difficulty.
Cost Economy: Compared with metal gaskets, rubber gaskets have simple production processes and low costs, and are suitable for batch application in medium and low-pressure, conventional working condition pipeline systems.
The performance of different rubber materials varies significantly, so it is necessary to choose reasonably according to the medium type, temperature, pressure, and other working conditions:
Natural Rubber (NR): It has excellent elasticity and good water resistance. It is suitable for media such as clean water and air at room temperature (≤80℃), and is often used in water supply, drainage, and civil pipeline systems. However, it is not resistant to oil, ozone, or high temperatures.
Nitrile Rubber (NBR): It has outstanding oil resistance and good tolerance to mineral oil, animal and vegetable oils, etc. The applicable temperature range is -40℃ to 120℃, and it is widely used in hydraulic systems, fuel pipelines, etc.
Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM): It has excellent ozone resistance, aging resistance, and resistance to hot water and steam. The temperature range is -40℃ to 150℃, and it is often used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, hot water pipelines, and outdoor pipeline systems.
Applicable Working Conditions:
Pressure: Generally applicable to medium and low pressure systems with a design pressure ≤ 1.6MPa (special enhanced types can be used for higher pressures).
Temperature: Depending on the material, it covers -60℃ to 200℃. For specific values, please refer to the material parameters.
Industries: Municipal water supply and drainage, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, food and pharmaceutical, automobile manufacturing, hydraulic equipment, and other fields.
Attention to Limitations:
It is not suitable for working conditions with strong solvents or high pressure, ultra-high temperature; otherwise, it is prone to swelling, aging, or failure.
For long-term exposure to sunlight, ozone, and other environments, it is necessary to choose aging-resistant materials (such as EPDM) to avoid cracking.
Basis for Selection: According to the medium type, temperature, pressure, and flange sealing surface form, match the corresponding material and size of the gasket.
Installation Points:
Ensure the sealing surface is clean and free of impurities, and avoid sharp objects from scratching the gasket.
The preload should be uniform to avoid permanent deformation of the gasket due to over-tightening or leakage due to under-tightening.
Regularly check the condition of the gasket, and replace it in time if aging, cracks, swelling, or other conditions are found.
Sealing is the cornerstone of the safe operation of pipeline systems. Choosing a suitable rubber gasket can effectively reduce maintenance costs and improve system reliability. We will provide professional product support and efficient response services to safeguard the sealing needs of your projects.
