In modern pipeline systems, automated flow control is essential for operational efficiency and safety. MIDAS has a comprehensive range of actuated butterfly valves, integrating precision-engineered valve bodies with flexible pneumatic, electric, or manual actuation systems. Designed to meet the rigorous demands of water treatment, HVAC, chemical processing, and industrial piping applications, our actuated butterfly valves deliver reliable performance with minimal maintenance requirements.
An actuated butterfly valve combines a traditional butterfly valve with an automated actuator—pneumatic, electric, or hydraulic—that drives the valve's opening and closing mechanism. Unlike manual operation, actuated versions enable remote control, precise modulation, and integration with automated process control systems.
The butterfly valve itself features a disc that rotates around a central shaft to regulate flow. When the disc is parallel to the flow direction, the valve is fully open; when perpendicular, it is fully closed. This quarter-turn operation makes butterfly valves inherently fast-acting and space-efficient.
MIDAS actuated butterfly valves are available with three primary actuation types, each optimized for specific operational requirements:
1. Electric Actuators
Electric actuators drive the valve open or closed using a supply voltage. They are available in two-position (on/off) or modulating (4-20 mA input) configurations. Key features include thermal overload protection, permanently lubricated gear trains, and manual override capabilities. Enclosure ratings up to NEMA 4X (IP67) ensure weatherproof performance, while explosion-proof models (NEMA 7) are available for hazardous environments.
2. Pneumatic Actuators
Pneumatic actuators use compressed air to operate the valve and come in two main configurations :
· Double Acting (DA): Air supply drives the valve both open and closed.
· Spring Return (SR): Air supply opens the valve, while internally loaded springs return it to the closed (fail-safe) position when air pressure is lost.
Constructed from anodized and epoxy-coated aluminum, these actuators provide years of corrosion-free service and feature NAMUR-standard accessory mounting.
3. Manual Actuators
For applications requiring simple, cost-effective control, manual lever or worm gear operators provide reliable local operation.
At the core of MIDAS's actuated butterfly valve line is the double-flanged eccentric butterfly valve, featuring a two-offset design that eliminates sliding friction between the disc sealing surface and the seat during operation. This innovative design offers significant advantages:
· Extended seal life: No repeated squeezing or scraping during opening and closing.
· Lower operating torque: Allows for smaller, more cost-effective actuators.
· Pressure-assisted sealing: Sealing force increases with medium pressure, ensuring tighter shutoff under high-pressure conditions.
MIDAS actuated butterfly valves are widely utilized across multiple sectors, including municipal water and wastewater treatment, HVAC systems, chemical processing, power generation, desalination plants, and oil & gas pipelines. Their robust construction, precise flow control capabilities, and compatibility with various automated control systems make them an ideal choice for both industrial and municipal infrastructure projects worldwide.
As an established manufacturer with ten years of production expertise, MIDAS implements strict quality control across every production stage—from material sourcing through processing, testing, and packaging. All products are thoroughly inspected before shipment, ensuring compliance with international standards and complete material traceability.
