Prepaid Water Meter

The system is based on the principle that the water consumptions are calculated, and consumers are charged accordingly in advance. Consumers spend the amount of water loaded from credit sales offices. The whole system includes the prepaid water meter, the card reader, the system software and IC/RF cards. By loading the credit to water meters via smart cards, the water meter cuts off the water by closing its valve when the credit ends, but when the consumer re-loads the spare credit in smart card to the water meter, the valve will re-open. It has the advantages of easy installation and easy to use, suitable for water measurement and charges of urban residents.

Prepaid Water Meter

I. Product Definition and Core Functions

A prepaid water meter is an intelligent instrument that measures and manages water volume through a model of paying first and then using water. It combines traditional mechanical measurement with an electronic payment system. Users need to purchase water volume in advance through IC cards, radio frequency cards, or mobile payments, etc. Thus, refined water management can be achieved.

Its core functions include:

Metering function: Accurately records the user's water consumption, supports cumulative metering, and provides a real-time display.

Prepaid management: Purchase water volume through paid media storage, calculate the remaining water volume in real time, and control water supply.

Warning and water Cut-off: When the remaining water volume drops below the set threshold, an audible and visual alarm will be triggered.

Data storage and query: Record the number of water purchases, the amount of water purchased each time, the remaining water volume, and other data, facilitating users and management to query.

Ii. Structural Composition

Prepaid water meters are typically composed of the following key components:

Electronic control unit: It includes a microprocessor (MCU), sensors, and memory, which are used to convert mechanical metering signals into electronic data, process water purchase information, and control valves.

Payment interface: An interface that supports the insertion or induction of IC cards and radio frequency cards. Some new types of water meters also integrate Bluetooth or NFC modules, supporting mobile phone APP payment.

Valve actuator: An electric valve driven by an electronic control unit, which is used to automatically close the valve when the balance is insufficient and automatically open the valve after payment.

Display screen: Usually an LCD screen, it shows real-time information such as remaining water volume, cumulative water consumption, and battery power.

Power supply: Mostly powered by lithium batteries, with a battery life of up to 5 to 10 years. Some models support an external power supply.

Iii. Working Principle

Water purchase stage: Users can purchase water volume through the water service company's business hall, self-service payment machines, or mobile APP. The water purchase data is written into the IC card or remotely transmitted to the electronic control unit of the water meter.

Measurement and deduction: When water is used, the water flow drives the mechanical measurement unit to rotate. The sensor converts the mechanical signal into electronic pulses. The microprocessor calculates the water consumption based on the number of pulses and deducts the remaining water volume in real time.

Water supply restoration: After the user purchases water again and completes the data synchronization, the valve will automatically open, and normal water supply will be restored.

Iv. Product Features

Pay first, then use water: By changing the traditional "use water first, pay later" model, it effectively reduces the problem of water fee arrears and lowers the management costs of water companies.

High convenience: Users do not need to wait for manual meter reading and can purchase water independently through multiple channels. The operation is simple.

Cultivating water conservation awareness: Users can directly understand the remaining water volume and consumption situation, which helps to enhance water conservation awareness and reduce water waste.

V. Application Scenarios

Residential buildings: Commercial places such as shops, office buildings, and hotels can achieve individual metering through the prepaid model, simplifying the process of sharing water and electricity fees.

Public facilities: Independent water usage areas in public places such as schools, hospitals, and parks, facilitating unified management and control of water usage costs.

In areas with tight water resources, restrict excessive water use through a prepaid mechanism to promote the rational allocation and conservation of water resources.
